Years ago I briefly mentioned something\u00a0Jesus said<\/em>\u00a0on the topic of homosexuality in my sermon\u00a0to illustrate how some people twist the Scriptures and read meaning into them \u2013 to make them say what they\u00a0want<\/em>\u00a0them to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day I received the following email:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYour message has taught members of the church and the community to not accept and support the LGBTQ community. There is a lot of hatred going around in the world right now and it\u2019s important that we do our best to love everyone the same.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s unpackage this a bit, shall we?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. It\u2019s not\u00a0my<\/em>\u00a0message. I\u2019m the server, not the chef. If you don\u2019t like the food, talk to the cook. My job isn\u2019t to prepare the food, only to deliver it. Jesus prepared the spiritual meal in Mark 7:21-23. I just delivered it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The person who wrote this believes that accepting and supporting the homosexual lifestyle is\u00a0loving<\/em>, and to teach what Jesus said on homosexuality is\u00a0hateful<\/em>. I would like to propose that precisely\u00a0the opposite<\/em>\u00a0is true.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The Bible teaches plainly that the person who lives the homosexual lifestyle \u2013 I\u2019m not talking here about those attracted<\/em> to the same gender, rather those who sinfully act<\/em> on that attraction \u2013 will not inherit the kingdom of heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, \u201cDon\u2019t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don\u2019t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes,\u00a0or practice homosexuality<\/em><\/strong>, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people\u2014none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God<\/em>.<\/strong>\u201c<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Galatians 5:19-20, \u201cWhen you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear:\u00a0sexual immorality<\/em><\/strong>, impurity, lustful pleasures,\u00a0<\/sup>idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that\u00a0anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d The phrase \u201csexual immorality\u201d here is a catchall phrase that would include the sin of\u00a0practicing<\/em>\u00a0homosexuality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Revelation 21:8, \u201cBut the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers,\u00a0the sexually immoral<\/strong>, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars\u2014their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur<\/em><\/strong>. This is the second death.\u201d Again, the phrase \u201csexual immorality\u201d here is a catchall phrase that would include the sin of\u00a0practicing<\/em>\u00a0homosexuality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      In light of biblical teaching, how can it be\u00a0loving<\/em>\u00a0to encourage someone down a path that will ultimately lead to eternal seperation from God? Conversely, how can it be\u00a0hateful<\/em>\u00a0to try and warn someone from heading down a path that will ultimately lead to eternal seperation from God? If someone\u2019s house is burning down and you don\u2019t warn the people inside, how can that be\u00a0loving<\/em>? If you do warn them, how can that be\u00a0hateful<\/em>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      I would rather make someone temporarily<\/em> uncomfortable, by lovingly confronting them with the truth of God\u2019s Word that can save, than have them be eternally<\/em> uncomfortable in hell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Now I want to be clear that I don\u2019t write this to justify what I preached (I don\u2019t believe sharing the truth of God\u2019s Word ever requires justification). I write for three reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. To expose the lie in the line of reasoning that says it\u2019s hateful to share biblical teaching on the topic of homosexuality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. To equip followers of Jesus with how to respond when someone tells them the same thing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. To convince those who are accepting and supportive of the homosexual lifestyle that they are doing more harm than good (from an eternal, biblical perspective).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
