{"id":317,"date":"2014-11-18T01:00:37","date_gmt":"2014-11-18T06:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/withskillfulhands.com\/?p=317"},"modified":"2026-04-01T16:21:39","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T16:21:39","slug":"make-it-simple","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/withskillfulhands.com\/index.php\/2014\/11\/18\/make-it-simple\/","title":{"rendered":"Make It Simple"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2 Timothy 2:15 says &#8220;Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and <em>who correctly handles the word of truth<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To correctly handle the word of truth\u00a0literally means to &#8220;cut in a straight line.&#8221; This word is used of road making. If a road maker cuts a straight road the path will be easy to follow. So Paul is saying, in essence, that\u00a0<strong>we ought to teach God&#8217;s Word in such a\u00a0simple and straight forward manner that our sermons are as easy to follow as a straight road.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In our attempt to appear sophisticated we sometimes complicate the simple truths of Scripture. But as Leonardo DaVinci put it <strong>&#8220;Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.&#8221;<\/strong> &#8220;As to what the hypercritical few may think, I don\u2019t care&#8221; Abraham Lincoln once said in regards to some people who were complaining about his simple means of story telling to communicate to the masses vs using fancier methods. <strong>&#8220;You don&#8217;t fully understand something until you can explain it in a simple way&#8221;<\/strong> taught Albert Einstein.<\/p>\n<p>Simple preaching isn\u2019t shallow or superficial &#8211; <em>just clear<\/em>. <strong>To simplify complexity means you&#8217;re smart and fully grasp the subject.\u00a0<\/strong>So this Sunday, and every Sunday, work hard to <em>make it simple<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2 Timothy 2:15 says &#8220;Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.&#8221; To correctly handle the word of truth\u00a0literally means to &#8220;cut in a straight line.&#8221; This word is used of road making.
