A Leader’s Job

March 24, 2015 By Mike 4 Comments

In Dave Ramsey's book Entreleadership I read the following: "It is leadership's job to continually shine a spotlight on the goal and remove any distractions." That being SO true, let me shine a little light on what we're trying to accomplish at New Day (i.e. the goal). We are in the disciple-development business and our product is changed lives (Christlike people). In accordance with Matthew 28:19-20 we: 1. MAKE disciples (we help people become followers of Jesus - “go and make disciples” … [Read more...]

March 19, 2015 By Mike Leave a Comment

Everything you do today will fall into one of four categories: Things that are important and urgent. Things that are important but not urgent. Things that are not important but are urgent. Dig a Hole Throw a Rope

March 12, 2015 By Mike Leave a Comment

I'm a part of a coaching network with Church of the Highlands (visit www.growleader.com for info). The other day my coach was teaching me something so helpful I had to pass it along here. It's a preaching tip. Jonathan (my coach) taught me how Chris Hodges (lead pastor of Church of the Highlands) instructs the students at their Bible College to "Dig a hole. Then throw a rope to help them out." I loved this concept and used it this past Sunday. I'm sure I could've done better but four people … [Read more...]

Benefits of Advanced Planning

March 10, 2015 By Mike Leave a Comment

Had a great conversation the other day with a fellow church planter and we were discussing the benefits of advanced planning. I wanted to record some of those benefits to encourage you to plan ahead: When you plan ahead it will help you not to fall behind. Proverbs 21:5 says, "Careful planning puts you ahead in the long run; hurry and scurry puts you further behind." (The Message) Planning ahead allows time for the implementation of your ideas. Planning ahead allows you to slow cook whatever … [Read more...]

March 5, 2015 By Mike Leave a Comment

You want to hire people who have proven themselves: Proven their value Proven their faithfulness Proven their trustworthiness If they don't have a great track record, don't hire them because the best indicator of future performance is past performance. When looking to hire someone (or promote someone you've already hired) you want to evaluate past performance. If they haven't been a good volunteer, paying them won't turn them into a good employee. If they haven't been faithful with their … [Read more...]
